Better Ways to Eat in 2009

More and more people are finding out that extreme diets do not work. Not so effective ideas like giving up an entire food group is proven unhealthy and sets you on a yoyo time table of weight gain and weight lose. Depriving your self of a certain food group in order to lose weight always ends up a temporary fix and leads to overeating and more weight gain after the diet is done. Diets are temporary; you need to think of it as a lifestyle, not a diet. Now what does work in your eating habits is simply making small changes in your diet picking alternative items in any given food group. Commit yourself to these small changes and don’t bite of more than you can chew by jumping into drastic eating changes.
We all know the most important meal of the day is breakfast. If you’re not eating breakfast, start out by eating a bowl of cereal that contains high amounts of fiber and use nonfat milk. If you’re eating donuts or any other sweets for breakfast give them up, and eat some fruit with your cereal, giving you that natural sugar your body craves anyways. This is just the start of small changes in your diet. This isn’t temporary; it’s a way of life. If you take each small step at a time, instead of attacking it all in one big shot, your chances of changing your life become even greater, making it easier to meet your goals of getting to your ideal weight. In fact, when you begin to make these small changes in your diet, you will forget about losing the weight because you’re amazed at how well you feel.
Start thinking of foods as a functioning device the runs your body. You want to pick foods that actually have some health quality benefits and provide basic nutrition. There are a lot of foods that meet this healthy function your body needs. Foods like yogurt, omega-3 fatty acids, flaxseed, and oats full of fiber. All of which can be found in healthy cereals, fruit, and other breakfast foods. Picking up a donut or pop tart and running out the door just isn’t going to cut it. Take time to enjoy your breakfast and don’t let life dictate what you eat by subjecting you to the clock on the wall.
You’ve heard of going green, green energy, green jobs, green this and that all over the media. People talk about going green every day. In terms of your diet, you should go green as well. This doesn’t necessarily mean veggies only. Actually, eating green is purely eating foods that are sustainable in the environment and grown locally. Don’t eat foods that come from thousands of miles away on some truck. Now how do you do this? Eat less meat and start buying foods at your local farmers. This is what it means to eat green, good for you and good for the environment.
Drink more tea. Black, white, or green tea, whatever you like best. Tea is known for being today’s super food for our generation. But tea has been around for a long time. Tea is full of antioxidants that are natural substances that prevent cell damage. Tea has also been found to promote a healthy heart, give protection against cancer and even help those who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. Tea is definitely a powerful and healthy drink to add to your diet.
One really simple change you can make in your life to become more healthy is staying at home to eat. Start cooking more. You’ll save money and eat healthier food that hasn’t been processed as much as fast foods have. You are in control of what goes in your food instead of being confined to only what the menu has at a restaurant.
By adding a few simple changes as these to your diet, you begin to see it’s not a diet at all. It’s a change in lifestyle. Depriving yourself of any food by not replacing it with an alternative leads to overeating and over indulgence. Make sure you’re physically active and enjoy healthy choices you will be changing. In a few months, you will be a totally different person. Trust me I know.
