How to lose weight when you cannot be physically active is one of the questions I get a lot from the subscribers of my “Lose Weight Permanently” program for women over 40. There are a couple of reasons why physical exercise is sometimes hard or impossible to do. If this is the case, you need to look even harder into proper nutrition- you can’t balance unhealthy eating with exercise.
First of all, make sure you get something to eat every 2-3 hours. These should be very small meals, around 200 calories. You need to stay away from easily digestible foods as well: sweets, white bread, white rice, and white flour. Stop eating 3 hours before going to bed so your body can burn calories over night.
Next, make sure you get enough sleep and relaxation time. It is impossible to burn fat if you are stressed out. So get time for yourself and do something that relaxes you and keeps your mood balanced. If you couldn’t have a hobby in the past, now is the time to find one.
Last, make sure you get enough vitamins, minerals and fiber. When you reduce the amount of food you are eating, you are risking not getting enough of these important nutrients on a daily basis. The easiest way to handle this is to have large amounts of low-calorie vegetables or salads. Broccoli, kale or spinach are great and will help you to lose weight.

Summer’s come round again and I mean, apart from the fact that it’s probably more comfortable wearing something sleeveless around this time the year, there’s more to it, isn’t there? It’s not something you talk about, but you’ve wanted to get rid of your bat wings for a long time now, haven’t you?

You wave goodbye to a friend and you notice something different. You can feel the skin wanting to keep moving. You go upstairs and start undressing and suddenly, you actually notice your arms aren’t what they used to be. No biggie, you tell yourself, I’ll just do some push ups.
But you don’t. You forget. You’re a busy woman after all. There are always more important things that need your attention. There’s not enough time for a strict fitness routine. You start ordering takeout one, two, three nights a week. You’re waking up feeling more and more tired every morning. You even run late for work sometimes and your manager is keeping a close eye on you. You fall into a vicious cycle.

You feel like you’re trapped into a corner. No one understands how you feel. You don’t want to go into a gym. No one’s going to help you. You’ll feel stupid asking for help. And it’s so expensive as well. You aren’t worth that much. And besides, all the other ladies there are going to be younger and fitter. You go home but don’t have the motivation for exercise. It’s not hard you tell yourself. Just get down on the ground and give me 20, you tell yourself. Instead, you’re thinking about what you’re going to eat tonight.
You feel like screaming. You just want to take control of your life again, starting by running your fingers up your arms not feeling squishy, sagging skin. You just want to feel like a woman again. Because that’s what it’s all about. You want to be in control again, don’t you?
